Churchy Churches
So, this topic could open up a can of worms, but I need to get this off my chest. Does it seem to anyone else that so many churches have gotten so concerned and busy with programs, and commitees, and gossip about one another that they have forgotten the important things?
You know what I am referring to. Churches that are so concerned with the structure of the worship service and the administration that real worship is hard to experience.
Could you imagine what would happen if by some chance God lead the pastor to give the invitation at the BEGINNING of service instead of the end? “You can’t do that! The service should go – welcome and announcements, hymn, hymn, offertory hymn, recieving of tithes and offerings, message, hymn of invitation, benediction. How dare you alter our church service?”
What if the pastor was lead to do a message on porn addiction, or drugs, or alcohol, or love and lust? What about sex, relationships, and homosexuality? Maybe he’s feeling lead to speak on the supernatural – you know demons, angels, dare he mention satan in church?
At what point did God decide that dancing, shouting, praising with all instruments, clapping your hands, literally falling on your face in prayer and praise is a no-no? He didn’t. In fact, these are the very things we SHOULD be doing according to God’s word.
I don’t know about the rest of you, but I think if a church in this country ever really experienced the presence of the Holy Spirit, it would be changed permanantly. I think there are churches in this nation that have had that experience, but I think the majority haven’t.
Why do churches think that the best way to grow is to be lovey dovey and touchy feely? You should only get the warm fuzzy feeling when you go to church. BULL! Yes we’re supposed to love one another, but we are also called to admonish one another in love.
I don’t know… maybe before I stick my foot even further in my mouth, I should open this up to the opinions of others. What are your opinions?
Yes, I am aware that this is stepping on some toes, but it should also be a reality check. I certainly expect to recieve some hot criticism… that’s your problem, not mine and if you have nothing to contribute besides judgemental, self-righteous, destructive comments, just pass on by, because I will delete your post anyway. Or even worse… maybe I’ll leave it so the world will know your true nature.
Constructive criticism, accepted gladly!
The best course of action here, by the way, is prayer and if anyone is willing to commit to praying for the church, let me know. I would love for you to join me!
Thanks and God bless!
